Credit Card Reviews : Discover® More Card

Discover was the original Cash Back Card (at least it was the first I’d ever heard of).  A buddy in college used to pay his tuition with his Discover card!   Discover has joined the 1% cash back club now, so they’re competitive with the other cards.  They also now have the Discover® More Card  “Get More” program which offers 5% cash back on rotating seasonal categories.  It’s an intriguing program that I’ve just started using, so I’ll have to let you know how it works in the long run.  One drawback is that it appears the Get More program makes you sign up once every season (every 3 months), which may turn out to be too high maintenance for my taste.   Discover also has a 0% balance transfer option for twelve months for new card members.

With Discover, you get an annual cash back award that is credited back automatically to your account on your anniversary.  This makes it easy to use, but isn’t quite as satisfying as getting that check in the mail.

Discover has one obvious drawback – it is not nearly as widely accepted as Visa, MasterCard or American Express.  Over time this has relegated my Discover Card to use as a spot starter in my credit card lineup.   August, 2007
